Volunteer
How can volunteers help?
Meals on Wheels needs volunteers to participate in our annual events. The best way to get involved is to join our mailing list and be the first to hear about what events are happening and what positions are available. Email Margo Willard to join the list and expect quarterly updates via email.
While we do not have driver or meal delivery volunteer opportunities, we do offer our volunteers the option to visit with seniors residing in independent living communities. Our Senior Site Visit program is perfect for the individual interested in a more hands-on senior volunteer experience. These visits can accommodate large groups, company volunteer programs, and school age children. For more information and to learn when the next visit will take place, contact Margo Willard.
How much of my time will it take?
Depending on the event, volunteers can expect to work anywhere from 2-8 hours. Typically working in shifts, our volunteers are able to attend all of our events once their shift is completed. Senior Site Visits last approximately 2 hours and include games and refreshments.
Where do the volunteers work?
Volunteers work at the venues where our events are held. Previous venues have included Macy's on State Street, The Chicago Cultural Center, Indian Lakes Resort, and a variety of Chicago locations.
Do you provide transportation?
At this time we do not provide transportation to our events. Most of our events are easily accessible via public transportation and we are always willing to consider car-pooling options if possible.
Is there an age requirement?
We ask that event volunteers be twenty one years of age. There is no age requirement for volunteers interested in the Senior Site Visits.
What if I have a special skill or ability to volunteer?
If you have a particular skill or ability you feel would be an asset to our organization, contact Margo Willard to discuss your interest. In the past, we've utilized volunteers who have backgrounds in the following areas: photography, graphic design, music/arts, general office, and data entry.
